The area of law which involves protection of the person can routinely subject lawyers and legal representatives to secondary trauma, burnout and compassion fatigue.
Recognising this, ILPA approached our solicitor Kalvir Kaur to prepare and run a course for its members alongside Dr Jane Herlihy, Director at the Centre for the Study of Emotion and Law.
This was a novel, interactive course which focussed on the lawyer rather than, as is common with most training courses, on the client.
It was presented on the 30 November 2015 with almost 40 attendees. It proved to be a success with the positive comments as well as food for thought for the presenters to learn from the experience and re-evaluate the best presentation for this important but routinely overlooked area.
