ATLEU is committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we use your data.

This policy tells you about how ATLEU collects and uses the information relating to all website users, including donors, subscribers, attendees on our training courses and practitioners subscribing to ATHUB, our online information resource.

1. Your data protection rights

Data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), gives you rights in law regarding your personal data. These rights include:

  • The right to be informed about why and we process your data

  • The right of access to the personal data we hold about you

  • The right to correction of your personal data if incorrect, out of date or incomplete.

  • The right to ask us to remove your personal data from our database systems

  • The right to stop direct marketing communications from us.

  • The right to ask us to no longer process your data automatically to decide whether particular marketing activities are likely to be of interest.

2. Why we collect information

We need to collect some personal information from you so that we can respond appropriately.

This information will help us process your donation, thank you for your support and, if you have subscribed to our updates, provide you with news about our work, allow you to attend our training course and access ATHUB, our online information resource for professionals working with survivors of trafficking and slavery.

3. What information we collect and how we collect it

We may ask for and hold the following data:

  • Personal details you provide when interacting with us. For example, when signing up for our emails, making an enquiry through our website, making a donation, booking onto a training course, interacting with emails we send, or applying for a job or voluntary position. You may be asked to submit personal information, such as your name, email address, postal address and other contact details.

  • Your communication preferences regarding whether you have given consent to receive email updates from us about our charitable work, training and ATHUB.

  • Details of any donations you make to us.

  • Details of further actions you take to support us, including signing up for an event; taking part in a coalition meeting; or volunteering with us.

  • We may also collect data via third parties, when you choose to make it available to us. For example, if you make a donation to ATLEU via CAF Donate and choose to make your personal or contact details available to ATLEU, we may collect this data.

  • We may collect anonymised and aggregated data relating to your usage of ATLEU’s website or interaction with our content. This may include your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths, as well as information about the timing, frequency and pattern of your service use.

Your personal information is either provided directly through our website or indirectly, through our third party processors such as Google, Eventbrite, Stripe, Donorfy, Enthuse or CAF Donate.

These third parties are independent processors and as such, are not subject to this privacy policy. You can read more about how these third party processors use your information in the privacy policies on their websites.

The ways in which we use your information is set out below.

3.1 Making donations
When you make a one-off or regular donation to ATLEU, we need your contact details and bank details to process the donation and thank you for your support. Your information is collected by the secure payment gateway on our website, and processed on the Stripe payment platform. Your information is kept secure on these forms using encryption.

When you make a donation to us, you may receive follow-up information from ATLEU that is directly relevant to this activity, such as a thank you, confirmation of your transaction, or details of how your support is helping.

You can opt-in to receive ATLEU’s regular email updates, to keep you informed about our work. We will only send you these email updates if you have specifically signed up to receive them.

3.2 Subscribing to email updates
We invite people to sign up to receive regular email updates about our work. These might include information about our training courses and other events, or further ways to support our work.

To be able to subscribe to email updates you only need to provide your name and email address. We provide easy ways to stop receiving these updates, and you can opt out at any time. You can control what information to receive from us by either:

Clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the end of our emails to tell us that you do not wish to receive our email updates

Update your preferences by clicking the link at the end of our emails.

3.3 Attending our training courses
If you apply to attend one of our training courses (either online or in person) we will collect personal details including your name, email address, your occupation and the name of your employer. We collect your personal details so that we can provide you with course materials and access to the online course.

We use the information on job titles and employers so that we can better understand the profile of people attending our courses and ensure that the content is appropriate and relevant. We may also collect bank details if you are paying for your course as an individual.

3.4 Subscribing to ATHUB, our online anti-trafficking information resource
If you subscribe to ATHUB we will collect personal details including your name, and email address. We collect these details because it’s important that we understand who is using the information on the site. Some of the information in the sections of the site marked for lawyers contains more in depth legal information for professionals working with victims of trafficking and includes details on legal aid, how to identify what victims are entitled to, the asylum process and appeals. It also includes sample arguments and representations that can be made on a range of these issues.

By signing up to use the information on ATHUB, you will automatically be signed up to receive our updates which include information on training.

3.5 Website tracking
Our website uses Google Analytics to track user interaction. We use this data to determine the number of people using our site, and to help us understand how they find and use our web pages.

Google Analytics records information such as your geographical location, device, internet browser and operating system but none of this information personally identifies you to us and we do share this information with any other third party.

4. How we store your information

Any of your personal information that we store will be held securely and safeguarded against any unauthorised use, disclosure, alteration or destruction.

All staff are trained on our data protection policies. We continue to review and update these policies in line with current and new regulations and staff are informed appropriately.

Donations made to us via our website are processed through third party providers (see above) and your information is kept secure on these forms using encryption.

Please note that although we take every appropriate measure to secure your data, transmission of information over the internet is never 100% secure so while we take all possible precautions, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you submit to us via our website.

5. How is your information shared

We will never sell or swap your data with any other organisation for marketing purposes. You will not receive marketing from any companies as a result of giving your details to us.

Occasionally, we may need to share your information with carefully selected service providers and suppliers who help us to deliver our charitable work and fundraising activities. For example, we might need to share some financial details with the HMRC in order to claim gift aid on any donations you make. Such “data processors” will only act under our instruction and are subject to contractual obligations regarding their data protection standards and policies.

6. Other websites

The ATLEU website contains links to other websites. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that ATLEU does not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites.

7. Changes to our Privacy Policy

We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s office. We keep our privacy policy under review and any changes will be updated on this webpage. This privacy policy was last updated on 10 December 2024.
