The session provides an overview of safeguarding, the risk of re-trafficking and how to build relationships with survivors.

What we cover: About the trainers:

  • For support workers and lawyers working with survivors, the risk of re-trafficking is a reality and taking steps to prevent further exploitation is a key area of practice.

    This training will cover:

    Practical steps for support and legal professionals and the authorities.

  • Robyn Taylor

    Robyn is a civil liberties and public lawyer. Prior to joining ATLEU in 2024 she was a pro bono lawyer at Allen & Overy responsible for managing their access to justice clinics in the UK.

    Robyn qualified in 2019 at Deighton Pierce Glynn where she specialised in discrimination claims against state bodies and service providers. She has a keen interest in advocating for the rights of migrants and recently undertook a short secondment at European Lawyers in Lesvos.

  • Carita Thomas

    Carita is a supervising solicitor specialising in immigration and public law, based in Sheffield. Carita is ATLEU’s Head of Legal Practice and manages the legal casework team and legal aid contracts. She is an accredited senior immigration caseworker and supervisor. Carita qualified as a solicitor in 2008 at Sheffield firm Howells LLP where she worked before joining ATLEU in 2015.

    Carita was shortlisted as a finalist in the immigration category for the 2014 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year awards. Her notable cases include the case of LL v Lord Chancellor CO/3851/2017 which forced the concession that victims of trafficking who are not asylum seekers are entitled to access legal aid for immigration advice. In 2021 she contributed to the design of the Law Society’s online IAAS re-accreditation.
